Up until six weeks ago, I had heard of The Killdares but had never heard any of their music. Then, I heard them play a summer concert series in a town near my home outside of Fort Worth
six weeks ago and ever since I’ve been hooked – no, correct that, addicted!
Take three guys that could be your typical local rock band all themselves (Tim- drums & lead vocals, Brek- electric guitar, & Troy- bass guitar) and add a fourth guy that could be the Angus Young of the bagpipes (Matt) and a lovely, nationally-renowned female fiddle player (Roberta), and you’ve got The Killdares.
I saw the band a second time at the Texas Scottish Festival and Highlands Games and again they did not disappoint. I will be seeing them for a third time next weekend as they make a return appearance at the Dallas House of Blues. Their current album, Secrets of the Day, is awesome. They debuted it just over a year ago at the Dallas House of Blues. Just yesterday, I played it for a co-worker while driving around and almost immediately she began tapping her fingers and feet and eventually commented on how much she liked it. Keep in mind, that she probably has never listened to celtic rock before this!
While visiting relatives in Dallas, we saw the killdares at the Texas State Fair on 12th October 09. Loved their version of “Blitzkreig Bop” but maybe the drummer needs to change out of that celtic soccer shirt & get a really good Glasgow Rangers soccer shirt instead.(ha ha) Apart from that, a really good band.
