20 Years Together: Our Final Farewell
Posted by The Killdares on Jan 27, 2016
Many of you may know that this year 2016 marks our 20th year together as a band. And as you can imagine, milestones like that usually carry big announcements. In September 2014 we released our seventh album, Steal The Sky, and were honored with further tours, more endorsement deals, and unparalleled support from all of our fans. But now, after much soul searching, we decided that 20-years just feels right and that it was time to climb out of the van and go out on a high note.
And so…after an incredible 20-year journey of making records and solid touring, it is with mixed emotions that THE KILLDARES are announcing 2016 as our farewell year.
When we began writing music together in early 1996, it started us down a path we never expected. And to think that what began in pubs and dive bars would eventually take us all over the country playing for thousands of fans…well…is simply magical to say the least. We always felt that Celtic Rock was a genre of music that dug deep into one’s heart, quickly took up residence there, and stayed with you. It was this visceral and organic approach to the music that always drove us to make music without compromise or regret…and became the foundation for what we believe was our own unique Celtic style. But that was just half of the equation.
The other half? You…the fans. Each and every one of you have been the lifeblood that kept us going all these years. To our amazing friends and family, we thank you for your support from the bottom of our hearts. To each of you who listened to our music, promoted our shows, hosted us in their homes, tattooed us on their bodies…we can’t thank you enough.
Although we’re going to miss seeing you all, we plan on performing a series of shows throughout the year and will do our very best to make it to a town near you. So please…come out and see us whenever possible in the coming months, so that we can say a heartfelt goodbye.
Music will always be a part of our lives I’m sure. So…here’s to life’s next chapter, whatever that may be.
