Brek Lancaster: Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals

Brek Lancaster began playing electric guitar at the age of 12 in his native Jackson, Tennessee (home of Carl Perkins, Mr. “Blue Suede Shoes” himself). Exposed to his first rock concert at the age of 7, he was immediately drawn to the guitar in all forms and fashion. Since then he has played in a variety of musical settings and genres, from Classical to Jazz to Renaissance to his beloved Rock n’ Roll. Trained in music theory and composition, Brek has studied under the likes of guitarist Jim Harkins and renowned jazz guitarist Lou Carfa. Now, after many long years of putting his fingers to the grind-stone, The Killdares have brought him something that is, indescribably, the happiest, most fun and challenging Rock music of his life.

There is always lots of coffee involved when driving. But now that leaves me more to read, write, zone in on tunes on the iPod, play Roberta’s “baby Taylor guitar,” and finally try to curl up on a small bench seat with a blanket over my head and get some snooze time before the next town and next show.

Favorite thing to do when you’re not playing? Disc golfing and hanging out on the boat water skiing.

What do you think your role is as a guitar player in this band? To bring a solid rock foundation to the rhythm section core of the band, while at the same time being able to step up to the front to join the melodic landscapes of the fiddle and bagpipes and dynamically work melodies and hooks in and out of them. Whether I am lying low or standing up loud when necessary, my role is very versatile and supportive at the same time.
